Parkview Speech & Debate

In December, the Parkview School Speech and Debate team participated in their first tournament, the Heideman Winter Invitational in Tustin. The team did an amazing job taking six competitors and taking home numerous awards! We are very proud of Benjamin Reichenthal for challenging himself and competing in Storytelling. Gabriella Mercado competed in Declamation and Impromptu, taking home a finalist medal in Impromptu. Kayla Seo competed in Impromptu and Original Narrative, taking home a finalist medal in Impromptu and placed 1st in Original Narrative. Alyssa Varela also had an impressive outing by taking home a 5th place trophy in Impromptu, and placing 2nd in Storytelling. Team captain Nathan Guerrero competed in SPAR debate and placed 5th in the event. Kayla Bermudez-Kim also competed in SPAR debate and took home a finalist medal.

In January the Parkview speech and debate team competed in the Claremont Wolfpack Invitational. This tournament features some of the top competitors in the nation. The Parkview speech and debate team took four competitors to the tournament. Zahra Washington competed in Original Oratory, Kayla Seo competed in Impromptu Speaking and Duo interpretation with Gabriella Mercado, Alyssa Varela competed in Impromptu Speaking and Humorous Interpretation. Hats off to Gabriella Mercado who competed in Declamation and advanced to semifinals in the event! This is a huge accomplishment for Gabby, a middle school student, who was competing against some of the top high school students in the nation
